I have a couple of friends and they were wanting to create a basketball team to enter in some competitions and tournaments. For it they were interested in creating some jerseys and they need some designs so they asked me. I decided to help them out and create what I could.
Basically all I had to work with was a name which was the titans. That is great and all but having really no direction and not a single idea what they want it can be difficult to know where to start. There wasn’t really much time to work on this but luckily they were happy with the first designs I showed them.
For this project I jumped right into Illustrator. Well actually I started in the browser. Knowing they were called the titans I did some research on other team logos. Oddly enough they were mostly roman figures and I’m not too sure where that came from.
Working from the whole roman theme I went with a shield and decided to add a text overlay of the name. I made some space and tried placing a basketball as well as a capital T. I also created it in both red and cyan to see it that’s what they would like. I then wound up in some interesting parts of the internet were I found some interesting characters. I found some other, similar images licensed for reuse/modification and added them into Illustrator. After turning them into vectors I worked on editing to make it work better as a logo.
The jerseys were being sponsored by Taber Temp Plumbing and wanted their logo on the jersey. I had originally planned to create a patch type effect, anyone who has seen or worn overalls knows what they are like. On paper it looked great, though when it went to pring the size didn't work so well and it didn't help that basketball jerseys don't have sleves. We decided to scrap that idea and just print the logo on the back, centered above the number.
